New Use of a Pressure Washer

Post by NvaGvUp »

Some of you guys are already doing this, I'd bet, but here's a new use of pressure washers:

I shot a bull elk in WY on Thursday and got home a bit before noon yesterday.

The bull is just a 3 1/2 year old 5x5, so I'm simply going to mount the horns on a plaque and do it myself.

That means I needed to cut the horns off the head, then cut off the remaining hide, fat and sinew.

I used a chain saw to free the horns and while I was cleaning the horns with my pressure washer, thought about using it to also clean the membrane and the rest.

It worked great!

I still needed a knife to loosen things up at times, esp. at the base of the horns where it meets the skull, but the pressure washer did a great job and it was far easier than cutting and scraping everything off with a knife.

Use it like a laser cutter with the nozzle set to a pinpoint setting and it will cut loose a lot of what needs removing.

Thanks, Henry.

I've lost my passion for most of this in the past year or two, so mainly just wanted the meat.

Plus, what's better than spending some time in the high mountains?

At some point on the hunt, I also realized I wanted to keep my streak going of making one-shot kills I've had with both my bow and my rifle.

It started with a Ram I took in NV in 2014 and this bull was no exception. One shot, 250 yards, sharply quartering towards me. He went maybe 40 yards and piled up about 40' after he went into the nearby timber.

I couldn't believe how many packages of backstraps-for-two I got today when I cut them up, shrink-wrapped and froze them today. Over twenty!

I'm the geezer on the right in the second picture.

That hat is actually international orange. I have no idea why it's yellow in the photo.

Mike,

"I bet those backstraps will be out of this world good!!"

How can they not be?

What's even close to being as good as elk backstraps on the grill?

Mouse,

That would have been the plan if the timing worked out.

But it didn't.

Nuts!
